Five poems by Lyudmila Knyazeva Translated from the Russian by Richard Coombes







Lyudmila Knyazeva is a writer who lives and works quietly and privately not far from the Russian city of Yekaterinburg. English translations of her work have appeared in a variety of English-language magazines, including Right Hand Pointing, Steam Ticket, and the Los Angeles Review.

Richard Coombes is a Classics scholar who worked for many years as an international tax specialist and is now a Russian-to-English literary translator. He has also written original stories and songs. Richard’s recently published translations include short stories by Elena Dolgopyat, and poetry by Lyudmila Knyazeva, Dmitry Vodennikov, and Tatiana Voltskaya. Richard also contributed to the Russian World War II poetry collection Frontovaya Lira (2021) and the collection of Russian-language anti-war poems ‘Disbelief’, due out in January 2023. Richard has a number of other translations scheduled for publication, including Pavel Basinsky’s thriller ‘Liza’s Waterfall’ and Elena Dolgopyat’s short story collection ‘Someone Else’s Life’.
