Poems by Mariam Meetra Translated by Hajar Hussaini



Mariam Meetra, born in Baghlan, Afghanistan, 1992 and lives in Berlin. She studied journalism and mass communication in Kabul and completed a master’s in social sciences at the Humboldt University of Berlin. She is a research fellow at the University of Leipzig and a Persian literary curator for Deutsche Welle and the Beethovenfest in Bonn. As a writer and a women’s rights activist, she is a member of the Afghan PEN. In 2013, her first volume of poetry, ” Life at the Edge,” was published in Persian in Kabul. Ich habe den Zorn des Windes gesehen, or its translation into English as I Saw the Wrath of the Wind, is her first book of poems in bilingual Persian/German and was published in October at Wallstein-Verlag in Germany. 

Hajar Hussaini is a poet and translator. Hussaini’s first poetry collection is Disbound (University of Iowa Press, 2022). Her long titular poem is available through Daedalus, the open-access journal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Poetry Foundation published her poetic statement on Disbound. A graduate of the Iowa Writers’ Workshop, she teaches at Skidmore College.
