Watch “Sands of Oman”

Naseem Rakha took an indirect path to her award – winning first novel, The Crying Tree.  With a degree in geology, she found herself teaching both American and Third World farmers and ranchers sustainable use of the land. But her love of storytelling led her to radio broadcasting, including free-lance work for National Public Radio.  Although never a war correspondent herself, Rakha blended her travel experience with her knowledge of reporting to create the short story “Sands of Oman,” which appeared in the Los Angeles Review, volume 6.  Now she has created a photo montage to illustrate her poetic, though deeply troubling, words.  Clicking below to see and hear “The Sands of Oman.”
