Book Review Query Procedures

The book review staff at The Los Angeles Review values indie, university, and small presses in addition to chapbook and micro presses. If you are a publisher who meets this criteria, please contact us (lareview (dot) bookreviews (at) gmail (dot) com or lareview (dot) reviewsassistant (at) gmail (dot) com) with your current and forthcoming titles. Typically, we review titles published six months or sooner. We are especially drawn to cross-genre books that don’t fit into one particular genre in both print and digital formats.

Please note that we do not review titles from the Big Six and their affiliates and imprints or self-published/hybrid published titles.

We publish both an omnibus essay review and capsule reviews for each biannual print issue. Throughout the year, we publish reviews on our literary blog. LAR works with a staff of volunteer book reviewers, so please query first if you are interested in reviewing for LAR. Unsolicited reviews sent to us will be unread and deleted.

We love indie presses. We hope that you love the critical dialogue we create through book reviews of titles from all genres.
