After he pushed off the burn in his gut faded.  At first, he looked down hard, scanning for what he could recognize from up high.  His office light was still on.  He flew past it and spotted the deli down the street.  The dry cleaners had a backyard – something he would never have known.  He saw his gym.  

The park’s lamps lit up.  He saw the city ease into its evening pace as he turned himself to face the clouds, letting his back take the wind.  What he saw reminded him of all those late nights where he would leave for home and stop right before the subway steps and look up just over the towers lining the street to spot the sky in between.
