You Have the Tools, Use Them by Carol Moldaw

Meanwhile, while we were off
practicing mindfulness, a deer
staggered half-way up our drive
and collapsed on the front lawn,
most likely struck by a car.
Robin left it on voicemail,
asking if she could remove the deer
for us, in exchange for the meat
which she would butcher up then
and there. The meat, she said,
was pristine, so far untouched
by flies. She was impatient
to reach me, to get going
before a mountain lion found it.
At first I heard only “deer”
and called back thinking
she just wanted to let me know
she was there with the dogs
and had seen some deer
rubbing against aspen bark,
chewing the orchard grass.
That was almost that, until
she went through it all again,
this time making sure I heard.

Hello Carol, Just saw your “poem of the day” on an FB post from Larry Block-scholar, creative genius and all-around down-to-earth good guy who is a brother (ULP) —to be explained in our next communication–
Larry and I grew up together in North Buffalo in the 50’s—and when he speaks, I listen.
Next, I read ” You have tools, use them…” and I fear for the fate of the stricken deer, …which,in turn, will no doubt let you know that I am totally unversed in understanding your poetry.
Can you kindly find the time to email me to let me know what I’m missing? For example, who is Robin? While I’ve got your attention-
stay tuned for how I work with “Santa Fe” in sharing U.S. geographic trivia. My best, Steve
